Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of a patient.
The purpose of dietician is to provide disease specific and nutritionally well balanced diet to the patient which shall improve their nutritional status resulting in better health.
Diet counselling: Patient’s diet recall and history is taken and diet modification is done as per patient’s dietary habits and disease specific requirements. The diet prescribed is written and handed over to patient / relative. The patient and the patient’s relative are educated about the diet prescribed so as to achieve the set realistic goals and hence wellness.
Counselling of patient regarding diet is done in all medical and surgical specialities like Cardiology, Cancer, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Pediatric and Barietrics.
